I would like to know what the concensus of opinion is of the Surinamese people regarding this incident.  We here in America have seen proof positive that Trina is absolutely innocent, the victim of a con artist just like everyone else.  What will it take to convince your court system (and your people) of the same?

Lovely country - Dutch Laws - Boycott it!

Suriname appears to have lovely geography.  However, the legal system has jailed Ms. Finn for 3 MONTHS without charges or any right of release or defense. It's pretty simple, folks:
    1. A Suriname promoter hired an American talent and misrepresented her as Toni.
    2. After nearly 3 months at large, promoter was arrested and confessed completely.
    3. Trina continues to be held without due process, despite illness and innocence.
    4. Faced with all the facts, the legal system of Suriname cannot or will not act justly.
CONCLUSION: It is unsafe and unwise for any US citizen, nor anyone probably, to enter Suriname despite lawful contracts or legal arrangements with any Suriname entity.  To do so exposes you to lawlessness and torturous detainment by a corrupt legal system.  Too bad but that is the only lesson to be learned by this.

"PROOF POSITIVE"

The “proof positive” to which jimspy refers that support Trina Johnson-Finn’s innocence are event contracts, business licenses and a number of documented e-mail transmissions.

Here is an example from the signed contract indicating Trina Johnson's performance as being that of a tribute artist:

1) "Purchaser agrees that there will not be any advertisements or promotions, whatsoever, listing the performer as literally being Toni Braxton."

I’m also saddened that so many Sranan comments reflect the opinion that Americans consider Surinamers as poor, stupid, illiterate third-world people who can be taken easy advantage of.

Does this let Angel Ventura of Events 4 Suriname - a Paramaribo company—who promoted the event to the Surinamese people as a Toni Braxton Concert, completely off the hook of culpability because he’s not American?

What proof positive?

Unfortunately or fortunately we are not in America. This crime if committed happened in a sovereign country with a court system. What proof positive? It is up to the court system to determine what the facts are... It will take exactly what is transpiring. A trial in a court of law. It may be considered a third world country, but at least it is not like a supposed first rate country with guantanamo bay as a prison for those who have no rights. and no right to a trial.

Suriname is doing exactly what it should!

Suriname should protect the citizens from these sort of scams. In a court of law is where one finds out who is guilty and who is not. This will not affect tourism one iota. Just like if one in the US is suspected of breaking the law and has to go to trial to prove ones non culpability. It is laughable to suggest otherwise. I say put her on trial and may the chips fall were they may. Americans do not have the moral high ground anymore. With torture of prisoners allowed now. etc. Please do not lecture or talk down to the Suriname.

Trina Johnson-Finn update:

If Suriname wants to attract the attention of the American media, you got it when you arrested Trina Johnson-Finn. Both the American media and the entertainment industry are closely watching this case.

A fund-raiser was held on Sunday in Las Vegas to help with legal fees and related costs to the family of Johnson-Finn.

Sadly, this is terrible publicity for Suriname. Americans who might once have thought about visiting Suriname for a bird-watching or fishing vacation will now think twice about the safety of traveling to the country. Those tourism dollars will go to somewhere like Costa Rica instead.

For those Americans who had previously never heard of Suriname, they will now associate the country with a negative event in the same way they associate French Guyana with Devil's Island and British Guyana with the Jonestown massacre.

Toni Braxton impersonator Trina Johnson

I find it curious that of all the news stories posted here since the American professional Toni Braxton impersonator Trina Johnson-Finn's arrest at Anthony Neste stadium, almost twice as many people viewed this story over any other. Yet no one has a comment?
I can't believe the mofokaranti isn't flying through foto about this con perpetrated on the Sranan public by one of its own.
Are Sranan sma afraid to voice their opinions?

Walk like a duck and sing like a Toni

Well if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, or in this case sings like a Toni, and looks like a Toni... She must have been trying to be a Toni.... LOL
