Biketrip: Suriname - Guianas - Brazil - road info
Hi,
I'm from Brazil (São Paulo city), and with a friend we are planning a motorbike trip to the North of South America. Probably we will go to Amapa (Oiapoque), then to Guiana Francesa, Suriname and Guiana.
I've read a lot about Suriname and we have already decide to spend a couple of days more in this great country - so many things to see!!
My only problem know is regarding roads information.
Does somebody could help me with a good road map?
What is the ways to get to/from Guianda Frances, Guiana and Brazil?
I don't mind if it a paved road os land road....
Thanks a lot!!
Renato Sartor - Brazil.
Hi Angela,
I read your advice on roads and wonderd if you could advise me.
I will be comming to Suriname to work on the Billiton mine construction site
for six months and I would like to buy an off-road motorcycle. I don't know the exact location of the Billiton site or distances to towns. Maybe you could help with this info or suggest local contacts who may be able to help me.
Regards from Cape Town South Africa.

SORRy but i dont, good luck on ur trip tell me how it went

Hi Renato,
indeed I already did this trip but from Suriname and by bus not by bike. The road you suggest is the best and I guess the only available. From Brasil you should go to Macapa and from there to Oipapoque. the road is ok...you fwill find a small part that is paved and the rest is not. Someone says that it is dangerous to do it at night. On the road you find now and then some stalls to buy food or drink. By bus it takes 13 hours....
Once you reach Oiapoque you just have to cross the river it is just 10 minutes. You have plenty boats legal and illegal. After you reach St. George de Oiapoque which is in French Guyana.Once you reach French Guyana the road is quite good all over is paved. Then you have to take for Cayenne and from there to St. Laurent du Maroni. Also in Saint Laurent you need to take a a boat and cross the river...then you reach Albina (Suriname). Once you are there you should visist some Amerindian villages there about. There is the Gailibi Natural Reserve, where from April to July you can see turtles nasting their eggs....its is very beautifucl..otherwise the villages are very nice. From there you take to Paramaribo and just visit around..you should go along the Upper Suriname River (very nice place)..From Paramaribo you head to Nickerie. Here you cross the Corentjine river and you are in Guyana...Apparently alos the villages along this river are pretty nice. Anyway in Paramaribo there is a Tourist Info center at Fort Zeelandia..you can get more info there. You might know that in Suriname there are a lot of Brasilian..so if you miss Brasilian food..then head to Tourtonne a neighborhood in Paramaribo..
Bon viagem,
Angela
