I am working on a family geneology project and found this site. I am trying to find out a little history on these ggg grandparents who both lived and died in Suriname (died around 1831). I know that Ester had a brother Moses Jacob de Meza and her father was Semuel de Jahacob Rephael de Meza, mother was (last name) del Prado.

Does anyone know what these last names mean? I know Soesman is jewish but cannot find any information on de Meza. Was it a last name? I have information that Ester was probably a slave, but at some point in time, she married Jacob and their son Isaac immigrated to Boston MA USA. Would anyone know how I could find out if Ester's family was native to South America or Africa?

I know this is a long shot, but maybe someone might have a thread of information.

genealogy

I can give you loads of ancestors- the Soesman family were ashkenazi jews, all the other names are in origin sephardi jewish. And though far removed in more ways than one, we are family.

Too much to post here though- here in Suriname we still have phone modems.... contact me via surcashew@hotmail.com.

Yrs,
